Martha at 4 months

Hello again Martha followers,

Since the last entry, Martha and us have undertaken a trip to the UK! For me, this was of great excitement, and even though it was a night flight I could not get to sleep for the anticipation. However, our Martha didn't notice any of it I don't think, as the noise environment of an aeroplane is highly conducive for sleep, and the bumping is what they like anyway. The pressure problems turned out not to be an issue, and even the time difference didn't cause any trouble either, so it was just me that had any problems.

Once in the UK, we embarked on a short baby tour, visiting mainly the grandparents, but we did see several other relations. For the exact relationship between Martha and some relations I had to check on google to discover the correct term. The most exciting visit was to see her greatgrandparents (below) who had a joint 90th birthday party while we were there.

The visit was also of note for the number of curries consumed. Here is Martha on her first trip to a curry house, this one "Spices" is in Datchet.

Martha at 3 months

Martha fans,

Well, she's now passed her 3 month birthday, and from what I understand, new things are supposed to happen now. New things like thinking about eating real food, sitting up, movement and longer sleep. No changes yet for our M, but she does do up to an hour of looking about, and can hold her own head up for maybe 30 minutes. Apparently, according to a book we've got, when she can pay attention to a small thing, such as a raisin, then thats a major step forward.



Martha in the car, in a rare awake moment in her seat. The seat has to go in the middle in the back, because I can't get it to fit in anywhere else, but she likes it. Well, she likes it when the car is moving, which means that we cannot be stopped (at traffic lights for example) for very long before she starts yelling. A measured approach, whereby one slows down as much as possible before the lights, without actually stopping has to be employed.



The Baby Bjorn is a great invention, and everyone has something like this I believe. We have a model that is a few years old, so its not as fancy as some, but it is great! She goes it facing in or out, and seems to like the security of being held it close with it. Also it means the carrier can perform other duties with not one but two hands - an improvement upon old fashioned manual baby carrying - and means exciting things like shoelace tying can be performed with ease. Carrie is carrying her on the beach at Rincon here (with appropriate sun protection), and I am holding her at Coyote Hills, in the East SF Bay with some novel sun protection.



She likes exercising her legs a lot, and providing we hold her, she's quite capable of standing up under her own power, as it were.
