Oops! This one kinda crept up on us...I've been reading quite a few very interesting blogs lately but we seem to have neglected our own!

So, our little baby is now a one-year-old. It's pretty amazing--the year has gone by so quickly and he has changed so much, while remaining the same sunny, energetic person he was from the start. That's not to say that he's not challenging--he is!

Tom is very active, and because he was moving around so much earlier than Martha we assumed he'd walk young, but it seems that his crawling is fast enough that he doesn't feel the need to move on to walking. He's been pulling up, standing for seconds at a time, and cruising for several weeks now, but hasn't progressed to the next step. We're not in a rush, and he doesn't seem to be either. As it is, he gets into everything--a new attraction every day, from the compost bin to the dishwasher to the toilet to toy after toy of big sister's. Martha has been very good about sharing with him, and almost always remembers to offer him an alternative when she doesn't want him to have something. However, we are now most definitely in the stage (which I remember from my childhood lasting several years) when the siblings alternate between cooperative play and mild squabbling. Tom is just so interested in whatever Martha does, and as every big sister can attest, this can be quite wearing after a while. Now that he can grab her stuff, he often does; he also grabs, pinches, and bites flesh and hair, opportunistically and quite painfully!

Of course, the main area in need of improvement is sleep, but that's largely to do with me being indecisive about whether he must sleep through the night or not. We're making some progress, but we still get up several times in the night, mostly for T though sometimes for M as well.
